On the occasion of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to him, praising his “incomparable contribution to nation building.”

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, into a humble family. During his childhood. He even sold newspapers in his teens. He studied aeronautical engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology, driven by a passion for aerospace. Overcoming obstacles, he rose to prominence in rocket and missile technology, inspiring millions with his narrative.

“Over the years I had nurtured the hope to be able to fly to handle a machine as it rose higher and higher in the stratosphere was my dearest dream,” he said in his memoir, My Journey: Transforming Dreams into Actions.

However, it remained a pipe dream, with the late president finishing ninth out of 25 candidates. Unfortunately, there were only eight open slots.

Kalam donned several hats, from being dubbed “India’s missile man” for his work as an aeronautical scientist to his dedication to his students as a teacher.
